Man rescued after falling into Havelock Road drain and getting caught for half-hour, Latest Singapore News

Covers have been put in on a drain at Block 22 Havelock Road, a day after a person in his late 50s fell in and obtained caught for half-hour earlier than he was rescued.

A video of the incident on Sunday afternoon, posted on-line by Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, reveals 5 paramedics rigorously lifting the person out of the drain and making ready to switch him to a close-by stretcher.

A small group of onlookers from the neighbouring Beo Crescent Market may be seen watching the rescue within the video.

The Straits Times understands the person was assessed by the paramedics to have sustained again accidents.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force stated it obtained a name for help at about 4.50pm on Sunday, and the person was aware when he was taken to the Singapore General Hospital.

When ST visited the location on Monday afternoon, employees from the Jalan Besar Town Council might be seen clearing the drain of fallen tree branches and leaves.

Drain covers had been put in, with residents saying the drain was not coated beforehand.

Ms Nu Nu Hlaing, 50, who lives within the space, stated she was coming back from grocery buying on the close by NTUC FairPrice outlet when she noticed the person dashing to cross the highway earlier than the sunshine turned crimson.

He then fell into the drain, which runs between Block 22 and Havelock Road.

Ms Hlaing, a store assistant, stated: “I was behind him when he fell suddenly. People were shouting for help. I was glad that someone called for an ambulance, which arrived about 10 minutes later.”

Checks by ST present that the drain, which is about 35cm large and 70cm deep, may be tough to climb out of as soon as an individual falls in.

Mr Xiao Wee Hin, 69, who works at a drinks stall on the Bgain Eating House outlet in Havelock Road, stated he was involved after listening to concerning the incident.

“A lot of seniors who are less mobile live here. Older people should be careful of such drains and uneven roads,” he stated.
